Copa America officials forced to apologise as wrong anthem played at Uruguay vs Mexico Copa America 2016 Match
Copa America officials were left embarrassed on Sunday evening after the Chile anthem was played by mistake as Uruguayan players lined up for their national anthem.Watch Copa America Centenario Live Streaming here
La Celeste stars, including skipper Diego Godin and PSG striker Edinson Cavani, were left bemused as they lined up at the University of Arizona stadium, expecting to here their traditional "Orientales, la Patria o la Tumba" anthem.
Instead the "Canción Nacional" was played over the loudspeakers, leaving Copa America Centenario organisers to swiftly apologized for the blunder.
"We sincerely apologise to the Uruguayan Federation, the Uruguay national team, the people of Uruguay and to the fans for this mistake," read a statement from tournament officials.
Uruguay's players are left looking at each other in bemusement prior to their Copa America clash with Mexico when the wrong national anthem was played.
Instead of "Orientales, la Patria o la Tumba", organisers played the national anthem of Chile. Tournament officials apologised to the "people of Uruguay" and blamed human error for the mistake.
